Change the Meaning, Change the Outcome

Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday season and are on your way to success in 2009.

I have been working on a lot of new stuff lately and new training programs for The eHomes Realty Network.  Most of what I teach are things that I have learned through my business at Tropical Realty or from books or seminars.

This past December I had the opportunity to go to see Tony Robbins perform his miracles.  He was truly amazing and I took so much away from his teachings.

So much of what he says relates to our business.

Here are a few points:

Change the Meaning and Change the Outcome

I’ve learned so many things in my life and never realized how simple something is to change and implement.  As easy as this sounds is as easy as it is.  Here is the deal.  Right now almost every real estate agent I deal with around the country is complaining about how bad the Real Estate market is right now.  I hear the same story from everyone. ” I have 25 home listings and they are not selling.  The home sellers are yelling at me and blaming me because their home is overpriced”.  Everyone is talking about this terrible Real Estate market.

What if you took a second and looked at it differently?  Firstly, if you are a seller it’s a tough market…no question.  Believe me, our office is in Melbourne, Florida, one of the worst hit in the country.  What if you looked at our business from the buying side? Isn’t this an amazing time to buy a home?  Isn’t this the best opportunity that consumers have had since 1999 to buy a home?  Look at the prices and the low interest rates.  This is an amazing time to buy a home.

So what did I do here?

I changed the meaning of how most Agents are looking at our business right now into a huge positive.  Once you change the meaning, so many other opportuntities come up.

For instance, in this market we have a great First Time Home Buyer opportunity.  Our office has begun our local seminars for First Time Buyers and have had 5-10 couples show up for the first two. These are scheduled monthly.  Also, the rental market is a great place to go now because for some, we can get them a home for the price of their rent.

In the end, by changing the meaning of the market you can change your focus on business.  So many Agents believe that listings are the way to grow your business.  They are a great source of income only if they are priced correctly.  Most homeowners are still fighting the value war.

Everyone Has Problems

Every person has problems.  The only people that don’t have problems are dead people.  It’s really that simple.  Think about it.  Do you know anyone that has absolutely no problems at all?  Of course not.  Even when you deal with your current problem, you will have another problem.  That’s life!  Once you realize that you will always have problems, it becomes much easier to deal with these problems.

Most Agents are looking at the Real Estate market as a problem.  I look at it as a challenge.  I have had problems all my life including losing $80 million in my Internet business.  However, I choose to embrace every problem I have and understand that no matter what, I’m always going to have them.

By knowing that it’s just a challenge, it allows me to handle it with much less emotion and therefore I get a better and quicker result.  I wake up each day thinking how great it is to be alive and how happy I am no matter what is going on in my life.  I really don’t want to not have problems since those people are dead.  Embrace your problems and take the weight off your shoulders.

In the end, life is to short to be dragged down by daily problems.

They seem to be all consuming but very seldom are you dealing with the same problem a year or two from now.  We all feel that whatever we are going through is going to be the end of the world.  It usually isn’t.  Wake up with a smile each day and take on your problems with a renewed fight.  Give your problems different meanings and see how quickly the problems seem to change.

This is not hard and this is not rocket science.  It’s just an easy way to deal with what life throws at you every day.

If you need help or have any questions about your Real Estate business, I am always here to help.  I spend the majority of my days helping other people deal with their problems.  My problems just don’t seem so big after dealing with all their problems!

I believe that if you are not willing to change with the times in any area of your life, you are dead in the water. This is especially true in real estate. Some of the more seasoned agents are not willing to learn the computer and what it can do for their business, consequently, their business is either dead or dieing.
Thanks for the good information and keep it coming.

Changing one’s mindset, especially where it pertains to your income, it extremely challenging. However, it can also be said that adaptability is necessary to sustain market share in just about any business. If a Realtor or Mortgage professional refuses to seek out new avenues when the going gets a bit rocky, then they’re essentially writing their own epitaph.
