This Market Is Not “Business as Usual” – It’s “Brutal as Usual”

"It’s important to re-train, re-think, and respond in kind with the re-tooled knowledge and skills to practice real estate effectively in one of the most challenging times in our history."

My real estate broker/manager came to me recently to ask if I would speak to the sales group at our weekly staff meeting about some of the things I’ve been doing recently to account for the amount of sales production I’ve had in the first half of the year.

First, I would like to state upfront that I hate “boasting” or sounding like a hubristic boar (I’m a great man – in my own mind) and I am a firm believe that once you start getting a big head about how great you think you are, you stand to lose your focus and things can take a turn for the worse.

Don’t get me wrong either; I am not in this business for the fun of it, although I do try to make it fun.

To that end, I stated to my colleagues that over the last year or so, I have taken an enormous amount of real estate courses to complete the requirements for, and obtain an Associate Broker’s License and at the same time, I added several additional professional designations & certifications to my resume’ including the Certified Residential Specialist® (CRS) designation.

Interestingly enough, during one of my broker courses, real estate finance, the instructor had to change the course material several times due to the changes happening live in mortgage and finance.

This is a good example of how real estate is changing daily. It is not static.

While there was considerable time, expense and hard work involved, I truly felt in necessary. This market is not “business as usual”, it’s “brutal as usual” and in order to be successful in it, I believe it’s important to re-train, re-think, and respond in kind with the  re-tooled knowledge and  skills to practice real estate effectively  in one of the most challenging times in our history.

Yes this is a brutal market, where the bottom line is all that seems to manor to many of the home buyers, and many of the sellers are learning very tuff lessons about the importance of pricing, as well as selecting a great REALTOR with a Great Reputation.
